We understand that there have been challenges in the past year or 2, particularly regarding staffing shortages that have impacted the level of service we were able to provide. However, we're excited to share some great news with you – over the last 8 months we have added 5 new members to our team! These new additions bring fresh perspectives, skills, and a renewed commitment to excellent customer service and patient care. 

Of course, we are proud of and thankful for our long-term staff members:  Dr. Cleary, Dr. Ross, Brenda (Practice Manager), Dawn (Customer Service Specialist), Annmarie (CVT), Paige (Lead CVT) and Laura (Veterinary Assistant) who really gave their all during the last year or so to get us through this staffing shortage. 

If you found that you needed to seek care for your pets at another clinic within the past year, we would love the opportunity to welcome you back into the fold and demonstrate how our enhanced team can provide you with the exceptional service you and your pets deserve. If you have stuck by us during these difficult times -- thank you for your continued trust and support!

Apache Animal Hospital has been serving the needs of pets and their owners since 1974! Located in Northeast Minneapolis between 35W and Stinson Boulevard, we are convenient to animal owners in New Brighton, Roseville, Columbia Heights, St. Anthony and Fridley. Our veterinary clinic is run by Dr. Terry Rapacz, who has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1969.

The team at Apache Animal Hospital believes that communication and education are the foundation for successful veterinary care. The doctors and staff stay on top of the latest advances in veterinary technology and above all, we remember that all pets need to be treated with loving care during every check-up, procedure or surgery. 

Appointments

Your time is valuable, that's why our doctors work by appointment. That specific time is set aside for you and your pet.

Emergencies can and do happen, and we accept emergency appointments any time our clinic is open. Please see below for more information. 

Payments

Apache Animal Hospital accepts payment via cash, check, debit, credit (MasterCard, Visa, American Express), and Care Credit.  So that we can continue to provide your pet with high-quality services utilizing the best medical technologies, we request that payment be made at the time services are rendered.

We provide estimates for all same day services, surgeries and hospitalizations. If you have not received an estimate, you are welcome to request one at any time for your expected charges.

Emergency and Urgent Care

Our staff is trained and equipped to handle any emergency your pet has. Emergencies can be things such  as eating, rat/mouse poison, being hit by a car, or ingesting chocolate. If  you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment, it is best to call before coming in if possible, so that a team member can advise you on your particular emergency, and so that we can prepare for your arrival. 

We are also available for urgent  care when the condition is not life-threatening, but you feel your pet needs to be seen before you are able to get an appointment. Our veterinarians will do their best to accommodate you in between scheduled appointments. When you arrive,  our receptionists will be able to give you an estimate on how long you may have to wait in order to be seen.

Meet Our Doctors

Learn Who We Are

  • Dr. Terry Rapacz

    Dr. Terry Rapacz grew up in Northeast Minneapolis, about 8 blocks from Apache Animal Hospital. He attended St. Charles grade school and De La Salle high school. Dr.Rapacz graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1965 with a degree in microbiology and in 1969 with his degree in veterinary medicine.

    Dr. Rapacz married his wife, Carol, between his junior and senior years of veterinary school. After graduation, he practiced in Madison, WI for a year then moved to California and practiced there for 4 years. After returning to Minneapolis, he worked as a Relief Veterinarian for 12 years, during which time he started the first emergency veterinary service which grew into the Affiliated Emergency Veterinary Service.

    Dr. Rapacz became a partner at Apache in 1989 and after Dr. Hilgren retired in 1994, he became the sole owner.  In 2002, he expanded the hospital and also added boarding and grooming services. He currently works part-time as he looks toward retirement.

  • Dr. Kathy Cleary

    Dr. Cleary graduated from the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. She is married and has 2 daughters plus a menagerie of pets including: Pickle, a Quaker parakeet; Abbikadabbi, a guinea pig; Gesundheit (Guzy) an orange tabby cat; and Cupcake a yellow lab.

  • Dr. Sean Ross

    Dr. Sean Ross has been a member of the Apache Animal Hospital team  since March 2019. He is originally from New York, where he graduated from The State University of New York College at Geneseo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. Knowing that helping animals was his true passion, he moved to St. Paul in 2012 to continue his education at the University of Minnesota, where he received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2016.

    Dr. Ross’s clinical interests include preventative care, radiology, and internal medicine. While he loves working with all of his furry patients, he also enjoys being part of the community and getting to know each and every one of his clients on a personal level as well.

    When not practicing medicine, Dr. Ross can be found in his yard playing with his one and a half cats, Richard Parker and Achmed, trying all of the awesome restaurants and breweries the Twin Cities has to offer, and participating in any sport or physical activity—he was the captain of the varsity wrestling team in high school, and played rugby in college. He also enjoys working on his car and keeping in touch with his friends and family back east– including his identical twin brother, who is also a veterinarian!

    Dr. Ross truly enjoys being a part of the team at Apache Animal Hospital and looks forward to working with all of our clients with the ultimate goal of making animals healthy again and strengthening the human-animal bond.
